BXR bike (Bicycle Crossroadster) or Touring BMX – It features BMX bike-sized (20-inch) wheels built with smaller light-weight frames made of aluminum or carbon-fiber. Also has front suspension, wide-range gears from low ratios to very high ratios, with 27 to 33 gears. It is reliable and low cost.
Trekking Bike – This is a type of hybrid with accessories that are needed for bicycle touring – mudguards, pannier rack, lights and many more.
Commuter – This is designed specifically for commuting over short distances. It typically features derailleur gearing, has 700c wheels with fairly light 1.125-inch tires, a carrier rack, full fenders, and a frame with suitable mounting points for attachment of various load-carrying baskets or panniers.
City Bike – Used for urban commuting. It has mountain bike heritage, gearing, and strong yet lightweight frame construction. It usually features mountain bike-sized wheels, a more upright seating position, and fairly wide 1.5 – 1.95-inch heavy belted tires designed to shrug off road hazards commonly found in the city, such as broken glass.
Comfort Bike – A modern version of the old roadster and sports roadster bikes. This typically have a modified mountain bike frame with a tall head tube to provide an upright riding position, 26-inch wheels, and 1.75 or 1.95-inch smooth or semi-slick tires.
Cross-country Bicycle – Some of the lightest mountain bikes. These are typically between 7 and 16 kilograms. Usually features suspension forks in front and often have suspensions in the rear. In both the front and rear, most XC bicycles have approximately 10.0 cm; 3.9 inches of suspension travel, although some riders prefer 12.5 to 15.0 cm; 4.9 to 5.9 inches of travel as bicycle frame strength and technology advance.
